Backlit — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-06
Backlit makes toys and tools for the Nothing Phone’s Glyph Matrix. It does not collect, share or sell any personal data. It has no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and it makes no network requests. Everything it uses stays on your phone.
- Approximate location (optional): if you choose “Approximate location” for the Day ring clock’s sun times, Backlit reads your approximate location on your phone, rounds it to about 1 km and keeps it only on your phone to work out sunrise and sunset. It is never sent anywhere. You can use a city or fixed hours instead.
- Microphone permission (optional, Music): Android files this under the microphone permission, but Backlit only reads the sound your phone is already playing, to animate the Glyph Matrix while the Backlit Music toy or the Music page is showing. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent.
- Notification access (optional, call alerts): Backlit only looks at incoming-call and missed-call notifications from your calling apps, to compare the caller’s name with the important contacts you chose. Nothing else is read, and no notification content is stored or sent. Only the names of the contacts you pick are saved, on your phone. You choose contacts with Android’s contact picker; Backlit has no access to your contact list.
- Nearby devices (optional, Bluetooth alerts): used to notice when a Bluetooth device you chose connects. Only the name and address of the devices you pick are saved, on your phone.
- Motion sensor: the Pet and Sand toys read the accelerometer on your phone, only while they are showing, to react to shakes and to tell which way the phone is held. Nothing is stored.
- Alarms & reminders (optional, Sand timer): used only to ring the sand timer on time.
- Your drawings, messages and settings: your Studio drawings, badge messages, timer, pet and other settings are saved only on your phone. Files you import or share are opened or sent only when you choose to, through Android’s own file picker and share sheet.
- Uninstalling Backlit deletes all of its data from your phone.
